Multi-Stop Orders
Handle complicated shipments involving multiple pickups, deliveries, cross-docks and terminals without losing track of freight or creating organizational complexity.
What is Multi-Stop Orders?
Multi-Stop Orders allow you to create a single order with multiple pickup or drop-off locations, consolidating complex freight movements into one workflow. Instead of creating separate orders for each leg of a route, you manage all stops, commodities, and tasks within a single order record. This works for routes like delivering products from a warehouse to five retail stores across a city, or collecting freight from multiple vendors before delivering to a consolidation center. The platform manages the entire route as one cohesive unit, simplifying dispatch, tracking, and billing for complex movements.
The platform handles multi-stop orders by creating a task tree structure where you can arrange stops in sequence. You add stops directly through the order widget, and the system generates a rate confirmation once you assign a partner. Bills of Lading (BOLs) are created for each leg but consolidated into one PDF document. The invoice generated shows all stops, their commodities, and total weight, giving you and your customers a complete view of the entire route in one place. When you split a leg into two, the system adds a stop in between to unload and load commodities, with commodities carrying over from one leg to the next while drivers and assets must be reassigned in the General fields panel.
How Multi-Stop Orders works:
- Create a new order in the Orders module by clicking "New Order" and selecting a customer from the dropdown list.
- Add multiple tasks and stops directly through the order widget by clicking the option to add additional stops to the order.
- Input details for each stop including complete address, ready time, delivery window, and commodity information specific to that location.
- Arrange stops in the correct sequence using the order task tree feature, which allows you to click and drag stops to reorder them based on your optimal route.
- Assign commodities to each leg so the system accurately tracks what gets picked up or dropped off at each location throughout the route.
- Split legs if needed by using the split leg option, which adds a stop in between to unload and load commodities at an intermediate location.
- Reassign drivers and assets after splitting as the split function carries over commodities to the next leg but doesn't transfer driver or asset assignments.
- Assign a partner carrier or driver to the order, which triggers automatic generation of the rate confirmation for the entire route.
- Review auto-generated documents including the consolidated BOL PDF that contains separate BOLs for all legs within one document, and the invoice showing all stops with their commodities and total weight.
- Make changes after dispatch if needed, keeping in mind that you can add more stops after the order is dispatched, but changes won't reflect on the rate confirmation once a partner is assigned.
What it means for you:
Multi-Stop Orders streamline complex freight movements by consolidating multiple pickups and deliveries into a single order, saving time and reducing errors. Instead of managing five separate orders for a five-stop route, you manage one order with full visibility across all stops. This simplifies dispatch by giving drivers a single manifest showing the complete route rather than juggling multiple order documents. The consolidated documentation reduces paperwork volume while maintaining complete detail for each leg. For customers, multi-stop orders provide a single tracking view of the entire shipment movement, improving their experience and reducing customer service calls. The limit of approximately 100 stops per order accommodates even the most complex distribution or consolidation routes, while the ability to add stops after dispatch gives you flexibility when routes change.
