ELD Integration
What is ELD Integration?
ELD Integration connects your electronic logging devices directly with TMS.ai, pulling real-time data about driver hours of service, truck locations, and driver status into your transportation management system. Instead of logging into separate ELD platforms or making phone calls to check on trucks, you see everything inside TMS.ai where you're already managing orders and dispatch. The integration automatically imports trucks and drivers from your ELD provider, syncing location data every 15 minutes and giving you a complete picture of fleet availability and compliance status.
TMS.ai supports 100+ ELD providers including Motive, Samsara, Geotab, Verizon Connect, EROAD, Fleet Complete, ISAAC, Azuga, BigRoad, ELD Rider, Envue Telematics, Fleetistics, GPSTab, Master ELD, Mountain ELD, KSK ELD, and GPS Insight. The connection goes beyond basic location tracking. You see how much drive time a driver has left before they need a break, check their current duty status (driving, on duty, sleeper berth, off duty, yard move, personal conveyance, waiting time), and dispatch loads based on actual availability rather than guesswork. ELD data flows into order and manifest views, so when you're planning routes or responding to delays, you're working with real-time fleet information instead of outdated snapshots.
How ELD Integration works:
- Connect your ELD account: Navigate to the ELD integration settings in TMS.ai and follow the prompts to authenticate with your ELD provider. Enter your ELD credentials to complete the connection. The system supports over 100 ELD providers with pre-built integrations.
- Automatic truck import: Once connected, TMS.ai imports all trucks from your ELD account and creates them as assets in the platform. Trucks are mapped using VIN numbers to prevent duplicates. If a VIN number matches an existing asset in TMS.ai at the time of import, the system updates that asset. If no match is found, a new asset is created.
- View imported trucks: Navigate to the Asset module to view and manage all imported trucks. The Asset module displays vehicle details, VIN numbers, and current status for each piece of equipment.
- Automatic driver import: The system imports drivers from your ELD account and creates driver records in TMS.ai automatically. If drivers have both phone number and email in the ELD system, TMS.ai creates a driver record with the phone number. If only a phone number exists, it creates a record with phone number only.
- View imported drivers: Navigate to the Driver Module to view and manage all imported drivers. Driver records include contact information and availability status.
- Reconnect for updates: If you've already connected your ELD and imported assets previously, reconnect through the Driver Module to pull updated driver information and any new equipment added to your ELD account.
- Assign drivers and assets to orders: When dispatching orders, assign the imported drivers and assets through the order or manifest widget workflow. The ELD connection ensures you're seeing current availability and location data.
- Location data updates every 15 minutes: After assignment, TMS.ai pulls location updates from the ELD every 15 minutes automatically with a paid subscription. The last known location appears in both the map view and the Last Known Location field on orders and manifests.
- View hours of service data: Access detailed HOS information for each driver including available cycle time, available shift time, available drive time, and available break time. This data helps you dispatch loads to drivers who have sufficient hours remaining.
- Check driver status: Current driver status displays in the driver record, showing whether they are Off Duty, in Sleeper Berth, Driving, On Duty (not driving), in Yard Move mode, using Personal Conveyance, or in Waiting Time status.
- Dispatch based on availability: Use location and HOS data to make smarter dispatch decisions. Assign loads to drivers who have enough available hours and are positioned near pickup locations, reducing deadhead miles and compliance violations.
- Manual ELD connection (free tier): Users on the free subscription can manually enable ELD integration for individual orders. Click "Connect to ELD" in the order data panel, log in with ELD credentials, and location data appears for 30 minutes before requiring reconnection.
- Automatic disconnection: Your ELD integration automatically disconnects after 7 days of user inactivity. To reconnect, simply follow the connection steps again through the integration settings.
What it means for you:
You stop operating blind. Instead of calling drivers to ask where they are or how many hours they have left, you see real-time status in the system where you're already working. Dispatch decisions get smarter because you're matching loads to drivers based on actual availability and location, not guesswork about who might be free.
Hours of service compliance becomes proactive instead of reactive. You catch potential violations before they happen by seeing exactly how much drive time each driver has remaining. When a driver has only 3 hours left on their clock, you don't assign them a 5-hour run that sets them up for a violation. Customer service improves because you provide accurate ETAs based on current truck locations, and you spot delays early enough to communicate them before they become problems. The integration eliminates the data gap between your ELD system and your TMS, creating one unified view of fleet operations that reduces violations by 60% and improves on-time performance by 35%.
